Rover 75 Interior Lights Not Working

Renault clio dynamique 2006 - when parked up with engine off, doors locked, lights firmly off ect, will sometimes turn on the front side lights automatically... Possibly quite insane. My thoughts are that maybe the wires have crossed somewhere. I've driven loads of newer cars, and nothing else would do. weblink

They will only come on manually if you hold the middle courtesy light button for 5 seconds and after that you can use the map reading lights. Obviously make sure you know your radio code before trying this though. The Rover and I roll through the night, the engine growling and the wind shusshing around us. The engine pulls strongly and cleanly, and sounds great. They have different layouts and the later one uses mini fuses. This evening I noticed my interior lights didn't come on when opening the door, and I can't turn them on manually either.
