A general rule of thumb for blocks is use them where you plan on having more than two of a particular component in a drawing file. I could do what you have suggested but I was trying to get away from that because I would have to reinsert this block and "update the definition" of all the I used to have a lisp command called "cleanxdata" that partially solved this problem in ACAD 2006 ..
